Guardian Unlimited launches desktop alerts
Developed by Skinkers, the leading in desktop alert technology, these alerts will appear on users' screens as soon as news breaks, and disappear when the information is no longer current.
Users receive headlines and summaries in a small dialogue window on their desktop. Whether they are typing a word document or using another programme, the alerts system allows them to click through easily to the full story on Guardian Unlimited.
Users can sign up to receive free alerts on major news events and football news, travel bargains and MediaGuardian's popular MediaMonkey insider gossip. As well as keeping users in touch with the news, the alerts boxes also provide a unique opportunity for advertisers to reach Guardian Unlimited's attractive ABC1 audience.
David Long, Managing Director, Skinkers said: "We are delighted to be working with such a popular and innovative daily newspaper. This win underpins our leadership position in the desktop news alert market. Our research proves that news alerts increase the frequency of contact with the audience by up to 20 times and we expect similar results for Guardian Unlimited."
Adam Freeman, Head of Commercial Development for Guardian Unlimited, said: "Breaking news in an incredibly fast, dynamic and competitive market is our livelihood. We are constantly seeking new, improved ways to deliver news to our audience and innovative advertising solutions for our clients."
